X-Men: Days Of Future Past – Trailer

X-Men_Days_of_Future_Past

The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST.

The beloved characters from the original “X-Men” film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from “X-Men: First Class,” in an epic battle that must change the past — to save our future.

This is also a great teaser trailer website => http://www.trask-industries.com/

Days Of Future Past finds Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Magneto (Ian McKellen), Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and the current X-team confronting a dark alternate future where mutants are an endangered species, tracked down, imprisoned or killed thanks to Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage)’s Sentinel program and an overwhelming level of distrust aimed at them from regular humans.

They boldly plan to send Wolverine’s consciousness back in time to the First Class era (or a few years after we last met those versions of the characters) to convince the younger Professor X (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and the rest to work together to stop the threat at its source

We love the X-Men for many reasons and we hope this version will capture some of the magic that fans and newcomers have been waiting for.

Only time will tell.. what do you think?

Frozen Movie 3D

Disney Frozen Trailer

For those of us that love animated movies and in particular Disney movies, Frozen looks like a lot of fun.

The main characters are strong women (from the trailer) who live in a world that brings magic, fantasy and roles together. In short a Disney movie..

The animation looks great and plot looks to have enough to take the interest of boys and girls, mums and dads alike.

The snowman come alive is sure to be a favourite with the kids.

Let us know what you think..

The Conspiracy

The Conspiracy (2012)

We were suggested to watch Conspiracy (2012) by several of our inner circle members.

The premise is that the movie is “A documentary about conspiracy theories which takes a horrific turn after the filmmakers uncover an ancient and dangerous secret society.”

For those that love connecting the dots and grew up on X Files, this makes a fun movie to watch on a wet or quiet afternoon.

The pace builds from the comic/drama of observation to pointed insights and builds to a high climax.

Several lines stand out, and we think most people will find something of value.

If you don’t like conspiracy theories, or even think they are possible then this may crack the door.

If you do.. just remember.. it’s just a movie right.

The end… well it will leave you thinking.

In the end.. glad we watched it.. and not blasting it to dust.. and clear it’s the kind of movie that will build.

For any want to be world changer.. or documentary maker.. worth a watch.

Gravity

Gravity Review

Vamers-FYI-Movies-Gravity-Official-Poster-496x733Just watched the movie Gravity last night.. I have seen the trailer before and honestly I was not impressed by it thus I was not expecting anything extraordinary when I entered the movie theaters. But BOY WAS I WRONG!

The movie started with a shot of Earth like I never saw it before and all through out the movie it repeatedly shows a different shot on a different angle, it is almost like the planet is another cast member.

One of my favorite scenes is when Ryan (Sandra Bullock) is in a tense and very dangerous scenario but on the back-drop it shows a contrasting beauty of the Northern-lights (aurora borealis)

speaking of cast members, they could not have picked a better cast, George Clooney’s intense but calm and collected facade as the Astronaut “Matt” and “Ryan” his complete opposite, an inexperienced Astronaut hired for her scientific and hard-ware expertise.

The movie took me on a roller-coaster ride, it has touched multiple aspects of human-life struggles.

First it showed how humans amid impossible circumstances can persevere through the impossible to acheive a goal, it also showed how critical teamwork and focus is in problem solving.

it also showed 2 different and very contrasting death scenarios.. sacrifice and suicide. And how noble one can be and how selfish is the other.

Hope and faith was also portrayed as a very important aspect on how we live our lives.

*Spoiler alert*
Ryan is an atheist and by the end of the movie she was converted.
*Spoiler alert*

All in all I will give this movie a 15/10 score.

Definitely worth watching specially on IMAX.

It was one hell of a ride.

Pacific Rim

Pacific Rim Review

pacific_rim_ver3Pacific Rim, directed by Del Toro, offers an intoxicating visual effects and fight scenes. It caters both to adult viewers who were fascinated by Godzilla and the new generations hooked by robots.

The film revolves around giant monsters, colossal mechas, linked brains, aliens and portals. These are some of the most effective ingredients in film making to grab the attention of viewers since it’s the core of pop culture currently.

The Robots specifically are very plausible as it still needs the complex human brain to control it.

As for the ammunitions they are composed of incinerator turbines, plasma casters, sting blades, nuclear vortex turbine and the likes, so the mechas doesn’t need heavey projectile-firing guns which are a waste of resources and will definitely add weight to the machines making it a near-perfect allusion.

All-in-all movie was an 8 / 10 in my books and I am 100% expecting a sequel and hoping this will be a long franchise.

The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby Review

The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby

The trailer is a wonderful piece of cinema – rich, luscious, enticing and teasing which we’ve come to love and expect from Baz Luhrmann.

So it was with anticipation that we went to the screening.

The movie starts slowly and draws you in, weaving a tapestry of plots and characters that will entice and revolt, delight and surprise.

To avoid too many more spoilers, this is an adult film with adult themes, which touched on many aspects and I’m sure will have people coming back to watch time after time.

The stellar cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Joel Edgerton, Tobey Maguire play their roles well and Leonardo is a great Gatsby. For a man who has played his life from the early days in stellar roles and living a Gatsbyesque lifestyle it seems apt.

This is a piece of art produced outside of time and with a heart that comes across.

It has some dark elements, which highlight all the more the good and joyful aspects of the movie.

Our need to fit in, to be perceived as doing right, to earn money, to love and be loved, to trust and be trusted – all these and more are exposed in this movie.

Star Trek into Darkness

Star Trek Into Darkness Review

star-trek-into-darkness

star-trek-into-darkness

Last night we went along to the latest update of the Star Trek reboot, some had seen the first reboot some had not, but we are all Sci-fi fans and love the heart of Star Trek.

Overall we had a good night out. One was a raving fan, and the rest of us enjoyed the ride.

The opening sequence is beautifully shot and sets the tone really well. The characters for the most part hold together well and work as new characters and as ripples of their archetypes, and the core question of logic / heart and what is right begins.

The upsides:

  • Great graphics – this is what animation and special effects were dreamt for – big space scenes where you really can forget that not one piece is really floating in space – yes the USS Enterprise is a real ship and we all wish we could fly on her…
  • The physicality of the universe made more sense – a real sense of a human made space ship and engineered world.
  • A few moments that will leave you engaged by the plot and wondering what’s next..
  • A favourite “Sherlock Holmes” playing a baddie.
  • Spock played by Zachary Quinto (from Heroes) played it well and the love interest with Uhura (played by the gorgeous Zoe Saldana)

The downsides:

  • a couple of the characters don’t cut it – McCoy, Scotty, … they are good actors but someone don’t seem to be playing it as straight as the rest and they are comic relief in parts but not in a way that we felt was right. Character choice and ability to play a role convincingly so that we the audience suspend our disbelief is more and more essential and harder and harder to “fake”.
  • a couple of places will have you question the plot and nice hollywood rubber band endings

Overall a movie that you can watch in the cinema or when it reaches home release. It won’t shock your world, but it will leave you having had a fun ride with your friends and after all isn’t that what cinema at least at times is all about.

Horror Movie Night In – Paranormal Activity 3

There it was – a scare fest to be noted in the history books as the greatest trilogy of horrors. Unlike action movies, thrillers and science fiction flicks, this is a horror film cliché which, like the villains in the tale, literally refuses to die. It was clearly not initially intended to be made into an annual series, like The Blair Witch Project or Birds, which are movies that attracted mounds of controversy and rank high in many people’s top 10, partly because they stand alone.

Any cheap sequels like Exorcist 2 are either completely disregarded, or the impact that they made simply failed to reach enough people. So when you mention such no-hit-wonders, the reaction is “What Exorcist 2? Never happened!”

The film did feature a good story line with catchy one-liners from the comical male lead (Christopher Smith) who exemplifies the saying ‘ignorance is bliss’. The lead female candy played by Lauren Bittner was vacant and unwitting, a role which to master must mimick real life as the movie was shot with hand held cameras; I think she did a pretty good job.

It threw in a snivelling, anorexic side-kick for a few more laughs, invisible demons, possessed children and there you had it – Paranormal Activity 1. Oh sorry, I mean 3. It was in fact incredibly reminiscent of number 1, apart from the fire which started all the madness; implicated to have been ignited by the spectre. In the original movie the fire held paramount significance, but its failure to appear at all held good stead for PA4 (2012). There was a fire lit at some point, homage possibly?

It also had more dragging across floors, more ostentatious ghost/spectre behaviour, and a lot of appearing and disappearing. There is something spookier about children when they are possessed because all of their integral innocence is gone, maybe not after the 2011 August riots, but it is an age-old and perhaps over-used remedy to a horror.

The film also holds in store some good screams, a few faux monsters jumping out of closets, ghosts locking you in attic rooms, and rapidly moving objects glimpsed through door cracks. Despite it’s somewhat lack of originality, the film was very entertaining and did not let down the previous instalments, I would rate it a 7 out of 10.

The Croods

The Croods

After their cave is destroyed, a caveman family must trek through an unfamiliar fantastical world with the help of an inventive boy.

The Croods

The Croods

We were invited to the screening in London and loved the atmosphere they created.

We were expecting a small affair and walked into thousands of excited children and families (including british Olympians and international press), so a quiet morning was transformed with fruit, danishes and great prehistoric surprises.. and yes.. The Croods Popcorn.

Made by the team that brought us Madagascar (“We like to move it .. move it..”), this has a great look, feel and sensibility.

The world is mix Flintstones meets Avatar and there are a few scenes which are truly beautiful.

The humour comes thick and fast, as well as a father / daughter interplay (which is slightly saccharine) though works for the target audience – and yes.. it’s hard not to be slightly moved by one of the key scenes (this may upset the very young)

Favourite elements – well Belt – and yes I and we want one..

I can see Belt having his own cartoon show on TV and shorts.

Will there be a Croods II .. I’m not sure the story needs one.. but you never know.

There is certainly the beginnings of a movie that will be a marmite movie – loved by some hated by others.

The scene in the cave.. where the cat blows out the candle being one of the most apt.

What do you think?

Iron Man 3

Iron Man 3

For all Iron Man and Robert Downey, Jr.fans Iron Man 3 was being eagerly awaited and I think it’s fair to say exceeded expectations.

Iron Man 3

Iron Man 3

Yes, there’s been a change of staff for one of the key roles, and a change in tone.

In short summary, great action, great plot (refined slightly from the comic cartoon story lines), and a great humour tone.

Where Iron Man 2 left some areas for concern / doubt (still amazing film for real fans), this movie has the potential to be a real turning point movie for the franchise.

It also provides a great link together between Iron Man 1/2/3 and The Avengers franchise group.

Tony Stark is revealed as more human, more intelligent and more fragile.

Pepper Potts is evolved from the PA to his saviour.

Yes, some areas that change for the timing of the movie.

Yes, some things we’d love to share (but not till you’ve seen the movie)

Look and Feel

The Iron Man iconic imagery is there in full effect, including Tony Stark’s seaview mansion, the classic red and gold Iron Man armour, the red/white and blue of War Machine / Iron Patriot and previous Marvel adaptions.

The movie seems to have matured with a strong environment to complete the storyline.

This is a grown up Iron Man movie, not a simplified vision of what could be done.

The Mandarin is played very differently to some of the stories you may know and love – we give the director , writer and producers kudos for this strong move, which when you watch the movie through to the end will make sense.

Plot / Story

Iron Man 3 contains many plot lines and story elements – as requested we won’t reveal too many insights .. yet..

However, it does focus on Tony/Pepper’s relationship and how it moves from the simple place of their flirtation to a real world relationship where they are vulnerable and in a real world love. Where suffering, risk and passion are played full on. Any woman would have a hard time keeping up with Iron Man, and at the same time without his Pepper Potts there can be no Iron Man.

She saves him more than once and he her.

There is another theme about how we create our own demons, and this is a great lesson.

Sometimes those moments that we hardly notice go on to produce our greatest challenges.

Personally, I can acknowledge that and in some way part of why I really loved this movie.

There will be elements when you will cheer and elements that will delight.

The Catches

The Extremis elements are not as thought through and storied out as they could be, and for those who know and love the Marvel universe, they will have some questions and grumbles.

Can we excuse – yes.. but really.. this area of the script could have been handled more elegantly, completely and succinctly.

What’s next

We hope.. Iron Man 4.. we really do.. and keep it real, gritty and focussed.. we can but hope..

We are Iron Man..
