The Conspiracy

The Conspiracy (2012)

We were suggested to watch Conspiracy (2012) by several of our inner circle members.

The premise is that the movie is “A documentary about conspiracy theories which takes a horrific turn after the filmmakers uncover an ancient and dangerous secret society.”

For those that love connecting the dots and grew up on X Files, this makes a fun movie to watch on a wet or quiet afternoon.

The pace builds from the comic/drama of observation to pointed insights and builds to a high climax.

Several lines stand out, and we think most people will find something of value.

If you don’t like conspiracy theories, or even think they are possible then this may crack the door.

If you do.. just remember.. it’s just a movie right.

The end… well it will leave you thinking.

In the end.. glad we watched it.. and not blasting it to dust.. and clear it’s the kind of movie that will build.

For any want to be world changer.. or documentary maker.. worth a watch.

Iron Man 3

Iron Man 3

For all Iron Man and Robert Downey, Jr.fans Iron Man 3 was being eagerly awaited and I think it’s fair to say exceeded expectations.

Iron Man 3

Iron Man 3

Yes, there’s been a change of staff for one of the key roles, and a change in tone.

In short summary, great action, great plot (refined slightly from the comic cartoon story lines), and a great humour tone.

Where Iron Man 2 left some areas for concern / doubt (still amazing film for real fans), this movie has the potential to be a real turning point movie for the franchise.

It also provides a great link together between Iron Man 1/2/3 and The Avengers franchise group.

Tony Stark is revealed as more human, more intelligent and more fragile.

Pepper Potts is evolved from the PA to his saviour.

Yes, some areas that change for the timing of the movie.

Yes, some things we’d love to share (but not till you’ve seen the movie)

Look and Feel

The Iron Man iconic imagery is there in full effect, including Tony Stark’s seaview mansion, the classic red and gold Iron Man armour, the red/white and blue of War Machine / Iron Patriot and previous Marvel adaptions.

The movie seems to have matured with a strong environment to complete the storyline.

This is a grown up Iron Man movie, not a simplified vision of what could be done.

The Mandarin is played very differently to some of the stories you may know and love – we give the director , writer and producers kudos for this strong move, which when you watch the movie through to the end will make sense.

Plot / Story

Iron Man 3 contains many plot lines and story elements – as requested we won’t reveal too many insights .. yet..

However, it does focus on Tony/Pepper’s relationship and how it moves from the simple place of their flirtation to a real world relationship where they are vulnerable and in a real world love. Where suffering, risk and passion are played full on. Any woman would have a hard time keeping up with Iron Man, and at the same time without his Pepper Potts there can be no Iron Man.

She saves him more than once and he her.

There is another theme about how we create our own demons, and this is a great lesson.

Sometimes those moments that we hardly notice go on to produce our greatest challenges.

Personally, I can acknowledge that and in some way part of why I really loved this movie.

There will be elements when you will cheer and elements that will delight.

The Catches

The Extremis elements are not as thought through and storied out as they could be, and for those who know and love the Marvel universe, they will have some questions and grumbles.

Can we excuse – yes.. but really.. this area of the script could have been handled more elegantly, completely and succinctly.

What’s next

We hope.. Iron Man 4.. we really do.. and keep it real, gritty and focussed.. we can but hope..

We are Iron Man..

Argo

Argo – a film that many will miss or filter because of the recent awards.

It’s an example of old school film making.

A simple great story that anyone can understand.

Tension being built not by special effects but story, pacing and film making.

I challenge you not to have you biting your nails, and holding your breath.

And was it just me, or does the film “Argo” itself remind you of Flash Gordon?

100% worth a watch on the big or small screen.

===

Argo is a 2012 American dramatic thriller film directed by Ben Affleck; it is a dramatization of and is based on a 2007 article about the “Canadian Caper”,[3] in which Tony Mendez, a CIA operative, led the rescue of six U.S. diplomats from Tehran, Iran, during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis.

Django Unchained

Review: Django Unchained

Django Unchained

The hype about the movie sets up a lot of questions. Tarentino remains one of the most loved and hated directors.

The movie starts strongly, and Jamie Foxx has a gravity on film that is undeniable.

The character of the Doctor is one of my favourite characters in some time.

The movie builds tension and suspense well, and you will be constantly beguiled by the soundtrack and  visual tapestry that unfolds step by step.

There are moments were the blood flows in the movie but not as much as in other films and truthfully it plays an important element.

There are scenes that will shock and leave you questioning the moral line. Half way through a scene with dogs being set on someone for example.

The final act of the movie is one of those.

This movie will not be to everyone’s taste, nor is it the movie that many will expect.

We believe it is a very important movie that in time will be come to be loved as one of Tarentino’s best

Notable change of tone and possible a piece that could have been filmed differently is Samuel L Jackson’s character which feels slightly more like Samuel L Jackson than a truly separate character at the start. He is truly scary and terrifying.

One fact that shocked many viewers was the true nature of Alexandre Dumas. I wonder how many people already knew that he was black?

Overall: Stick with it – you’ll love it if you can watch the whole way through.

Upside Down – Trailer

Upside Down is an interesting movie, and the trailer will definitely get you thinking.

What if there were twin planets with different gravities..

It’s definitely a movie that will intrigue those of us that like the altered world variety, from the Matrix to Dark Cities.

It’s going to be interesting to see reviews when the movie goes live.

“Upside Down is a 2012 French-Canadian romantic fantasy film written and directed by Juan Diego Solanas. Starring Jim Sturgess and Kirsten Dunst, the film is about a man searching an alternate universe for a long-lost love from his youth”

Monsters Inc 3d

Monsters Inc 3D

Monsters Inc 3d

Monsters Inc 3d

One of the movies that was a turning point for the genres has come back for the Xmas season (and to help with the marketing of Monsters University) and this time it’s in 3D.

If you know the movie already there will be some obvious places where 3D has the potential to have a big impact – the scare scenes, the door chase, etc..

We saw the movie in a great cinema and with our favourite 5 year old film reviewer (he hadn’t seen the movie in 2D).

The film still has the same surprises and characters that will enchant many.

Our 5 year old jumped in places and maybe caused by the 3d genuinely got “upset” in parts.

Does the 3D make the movie.. well when we compare with Life of Pi which would not have been the same movie in 2D by any shape of the imagination, I don’t personally feel that Monster’s Inc 3d was really that much of a step forward.

Perhaps it was the screen, or the mood, overall yes a great movie – though somehow it felt “darker” this time around (and yes we’ve seen it many many times before…)

It’s interesting to think back the history of Pixar, especially with the legacy of Steve Jobs and the other impacts happening globally.

We’ve seen the future and the future is holographics (http://www.THEfutureINadvance.com) and watching a movie like Monsters Inc in that format would be truly life changing.

ps

Our 5 year old did ask an interesting question – why do people love 3d so much?

Be warned you will walk by the Disney store and the merchandise is back in force…

Life of PI

The Life Of Pi – 2012 – 20/12/2012

The Life Of Pi

Life of PI

The Life Of Pi is an amazing book which looks like being an amazing break through movie from the award winning director Ang Lee.

The trailer is amazing and we look forward to seeing how the books amazing imagery translates to the big (or super big screen). Everything we’ve heard and seen so far, suggests this is going to be one of the visual treats for the year, and we strongly this The Life of Pi will end up getting many awards.

If you haven’t yet, read the book, and smile..

After all .. how often do you get rescued by a life raft only to find yourself stuck with a tiger…

The look of the film and the tone are very on point.

We have tickets to see the film at Imax available to VIPs care of  Fresh And On Point and Simon X

We can’t wait till the public release of The Super Spy – which remains under wraps publically but is extremely interesting
